Parents always tell me how there are things about their kids' speech that they don't want to change. . . like how "cute" it is when they say their r's and l's wrong. . . or how "cute" it is that they say "titty tat" for "kitty cat." As a speech-language pathologist, I'm not supposed to think those things are "cute," and I never really have thought they were. . .
Until now. . .
Isaac can't say the /r/ sound yet (which is completely fine at his age). He usually substitutes an /l/ sound for an /r/ sound. My favorite thing he says right now is, "What's your problem?" Only it comes out, "What's your ploblem?" It is so. . . . dare I say. . . "CUTE."
The other night we were eating dinner with Grandma and Papa while they were visiting. Grandma and Papa had some broccoli, and Grandma offered some to Isaac. He just touched it (never tasted it) but looked at me and said, "Mommy, I don't like bloccoli." Awwwww. . . .
The thing I always tell parents is to repeat what their children say back to them the RIGHT way. So if their child says "wabbit," they should say, "Yes, that's a rabbit."
But I have found myself looking at Isaac lately and saying, "Hey Isaac, what's your ploblem?"

I completely agree...as a teacher I couldn't believe "those" kind of parents. But now when Reese says, "Look at my U-TIFUL (beautiful) painting" I can't even begin to correct him. :)
